Ed Kuzemchak, CTO and Director of IoT at Software Design Solutions (SDS), is presenting at Sensors Midwest on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 to discuss Machine Learning (ML) in the Fog for Industrial IoT.
Kuzemchak’s presentation, scheduled for 11:10 am on October 17, will discuss the challenges of ML within Industrial IoT systems and how the Fog can be used to overcome them.
Industrial IoT systems often use legacy sensors that are outdated and have limited communication bandwidth. These systems are also typically installed in harsh environments, creating additional challenges for capturing and processing IoT data.
The Fog refers to the space between these old edge nodes and the cloud, where onsite data can be processed. Closer proximity to the data, centralization, and low latency communication makes the Fog an ideal location for the heavy lifting of ML in these Industrial systems.
Fog-based IoT data analysis is drastically faster, providing real-time insights on Industrial systems. Examples of how Fog-based ML has been used include image classification, convolutional neural network processing, and data reduction.
Kuzemchak’s extensive experience in embedded engineering and IoT systems gives him a very practical viewpoint. He developed this lecture to provide actionable takeaways for the Industrial IoT industry. Ed will discuss the challenges, benefits, and best practices of Fog-based ML for Industrial IoT, including real-world examples across multiple industries such as smart retail, autonomous vehicles, and smart agriculture.
