Ed Kuzemchak, CTO and Director of IoT at Software Design Solutions (SDS), is presenting at IDTechEx on November 15, 2018 on “Industrial IoT Systems—The Promise and the Practice.”
Kuzemchak’s presentation, scheduled for 10 am on November 15 in Grand Ballroom A, will discuss the unique characteristics of Industrial IoT systems as compared to IoT deployments in consumer, retail, and other domains.
Industrial IoT systems differ in their design due to their environmental and communication differences, rendering the entire business model of an Industrial IoT system different from that of consumer and retail IoT systems. The harsh conditions and limited communication bandwidth of Industrial IoT systems must be factored into Return on Investment (ROI) and cost/benefit decisions.
When deployed properly, Industrial IoT systems show great promise in terms of greater machine efficiency, longer life, and lower downtime rates. This includes using the Fog for Machine Learning (ML) in Industrial IoT systems, which Ed will also address in his speech.
The Fog refers to the space between the old edge nodes of Industrial systems and the cloud, where onsite data can be processed. Closer proximity to the data, centralization, and low latency communication makes the Fog an ideal location for the heavy lifting of ML in these Industrial systems.
Kuzemchak’s extensive experience in embedded engineering and IoT systems gives him a very practical viewpoint. He developed this lecture to provide actionable takeaways for the Industrial IoT industry. Ed will discuss the challenges, benefits, and best practices of Fog-based ML for Industrial IoT, including real-world examples across multiple industries such as smart retail, autonomous vehicles, and smart agriculture.
IDTechEx features eight conferences and a single exhibition covering the Internet of Things, 3D printing, electric vehicles, energy storage, graphene, printed electronics, sensors, and wearable technology. The show runs from November 14 – 15 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California.
